Deathly Hallows - Chapter One (no details)

I just wish to say that --

Remember when Harry was talking about someone's acting ability and he said that not even Snape could be that good of an actor?

Oh, please let Snape be that good of an actor....

Aby! Are you up and awake and have recovered from your marathon book7 read? :)

Just wanted to share my joy that book 7 is out and I've read it. I loved the pace of the book and how JKR kept surprising us til the end.

There were several unanswered questions though. I caught the part where someone was able to do magic late in life, but didn't JKR say something about Hogwarts teachers' spouses? Did I miss that part? Gotta re-read, slowly and in analysis mode this time.

I'm still crying over Snape's death... and his memories... and the fact that Harry and Ginny name a son Albus Severus....

My sister is still convinced that he was an evil person, simply controled by Albus Dumbledore, and that the ONLY reason he helped Harry was because of Lily. I see her point, I really do, but I want to believe that there was something truly good about him, and that he'd just made too many bad choices.... I wanted so badly for him to live, but alas....

caseyanndigger, even though I was on chapter 16 before the book's official release, I stopped reading Friday afternoon. Then I was off the internet until just a few minutes ago. I didn't have the actual, physical book in my hands until just after 2pm yesterday, at which point I started over from the begining. This was all good and well until my sister had caught up to where I was previously (ch 16), and I was only on the re-read of chapter 9. Then I skipped ahead to where I had originally left off. I read all night (no sleep at all), and even took the book with me to the bathroom! By 8 or 9 this morning I was bawling my eyes out! As you can imagine, it was from reading chapters 32, 33, and the epilogue. Poor pitiful Snape....

I also missed the part about someone finally managing a burst of magic late in life... I wonder if it has anything to do with Aberforth. I looks like he hadn't been using magic for many years, though I hope this was not the answer.

I'm also finding SO MANY gaping holes that I crave to have filled in (and they're not in George's ear). :)

What drove Snape to Slytherin and the Dark Arts? What made him choose Slytherin house and his "friends" over her?

Well, I have LOADS of questions, but no time to list them all here, so I'll start posting again, but this time it will be a full analysis, much like my original blog scope, but now including what we've learned from Deathly Hallows.

I think the person who did magic late in their life is Ariana Dumbledore. She fits everything Rowling had said about it....

I wondered if I missed Filch doing something, but I haven't seen it yet anyhow.

I have many unanswered questions... namely..

What happens to George?

Who did Draco marry?

Did Hermione take a career?

What are all their careers? We only see Neville's.

Who was Headmaster after Snape?

Was there some kind of deal where all the prisoners were brought back, like the Liberation of the Death Camps, in WWII?

Is Teddy Lupin a Metamorph/AniMagus? iow, can he turn into a turquoise werewolf?

What happened to Mrs. Figg?

What happened to Fortescue?

Was Stan Shunpike under Imperius?

Did Crookshanks to to Oz?

What about the trials for the people who weren't Imperiused. Like Umbridge... or even Lucius.

Did the Malfoy's lose some or all of their fortune?

Did Griphook get caught and punished by the GoblinNation for his part in the break-in and robbery from Gringotts?

Did the Chudley Cannons ever win the season?????

*waits for bk8*

Aby, Ted Tonks was the one who managed to do magic late in life. He was the muggle newscaster back in book 1. Andromeda, his wife, was blasted from the Black family tree for marrying him, a muggle. Re-read the part where Harry and Hagrid were at the Tonks' house. Ted told Harry that he fixed Harry's ribs, teeth, etc. My brain kind of squealed to a halt and said "Isn't he a Muggle??"

But I don't recall anything about Hogwarts professors' spouses in the book, and didn't JKR say in an interview that we'll have some insight in book 7 whether some of the professors were married?

Karlii,

Ariana had no "late in life", did she? She died quite young, and she performed magic on several occasions; she simply couldn't control the magical outbursts.... What we see in Aberforth's bar is just a portrait, though it can do things that the others cannot.

I'll reply about the other bits later.

Ted Tonks was a Muggle-born.. not a Muggle. See page 113, in OotP.

"Andromeda's sisters are still here because they made lovely, respectable pure-blood marriages, but Andromeda married a Muggle-born, Ted Tonks so --"

I know he was a tv broadcaster in bk1.. but that does not mean he couldn't do magic also.

And I realize Ariana didn't live very long.. but that battle would have been late in HER life.

I have seen Crabbe mentioned as well, but he must have done magic (consiously) at SOME point before bk7... while he was at Hogwarts.

I keep looking for a trace of Vernon or Filch doing SOMETHING.. ANYthing.. that would tie it up.. but I'm not seeing it.

Anyone else we can think of?? hmm...

caseyanndigger, I never found info on spouses for Hogwarts staff either, and I had expected to find some in Book 7, too.

When I re-read Deathly Hallows I'll have to keep an eye out for that as well.

Karlii, to respond to some other topics you mention:

George apparently lives, but I have no idea what happens to him after the war is over. I'd like to think he returns to his WWW shop to keep the jokes, protection gear, and other products flying (jumping, scurrying, crawling, etc.) off the shelves. Perhaps he marries the girl who helped them run the shop... her name was Verity, right?

Too bad Jo doesn't tell us who Draco marries. Since she isn't mentioned after her horrid behavior during the last battle, I hope (and think) that it isn't Pansy Parkinson....

Hermione's career (as well as most of the others') is an interesting question. I'd like to think she became a magical historian, taking over for Batilda Bagshot.

Like James, Harry inheritted wealth and might not have a regular job. There might be a general concensus that he's earned an eraly retirement of sorts.

Hoorah for Neville, though we knew this would happen. Herbology had always been his best subject. What we don't know is what happened to Professor Sprout; did she die or just retire?

More replies to come....

Karlii, LOL at your comment about Teddy turning into a purple werewolf.

Yes, now I remember, Ted Tonks was Muggle-born, not a Muggle.

I was disappointed that Umbridge wasn't "tortured". Too bad she wasn't part of Voldemort's army trying to take over Hogwarts. I would have loved for her to be carried off by the centaurs again.

I was also disappointed at the very short appearance of Krum, though his appearance did help Harry learn about the Hallows mark.

Still, overall, it was a wonderful read. My teens were laughing at me, crying buckets while reading.
